To create a Scandi theme at home, use a colour palette that’s generally white and off-white. So as not to look to sterile, add gently greyed down colours like gentle grey greens like sage, soft duck egg blues, or light shades of grey.  Many Scandi styles do incorporate pops of black and charcoal.

Scandinavians also deeply value nature and spending time outdoors, something that is reflected in this style. Wooden floors are usually left uncovered and Scandi styled homes frequently use lighter wooden tones. So, you can also introduce colour with natural timber or some tan hues. Naturally, live plants would really bring the outdoors in.

Speaking of nature, Scandinavian winters are no joke. So, creating a warm and inviting home is key, like using chunky knit blankets and faux fur throw pillows or rugs.

For complementary door hardware, the sleek designs of the Schlage Element Series like the Lianna and Amelia levers in matt black or satin chrome finishes would be good options, as well as the Alba lever of the Schlage Medio Series in brushed satin chrome.

Part of the Scandi style appeal is how aspirational it feels. The kind of uncluttered character that would make Marie Kondo proud and brightness evokes a sense of calm that people crave after a stressful day at work.

Designer Kerri Rosenthal sums it up well: “The clean but warm design, which focuses on sharp contrasts, whites, naturals, and black, makes you feel happy, but not in a kitschy way.”
